Evaluation of the Aurora Public Schools ACTION Zone
Prepared for Rose Community Foundation, Gates Family Foundation, and The Denver Foundation in 2018
This project is funded by a consortium of foundations supporting the development of the ACTION Zone in Aurora Public Schools (APS). The purposes of this project were to:
Understand the environment and conditions within which the ACTION Zone exists
Identify any institutional and/or cultural barriers to implementation of the ACTION Zone goal of school improvement
Develop recommendations regarding how to best remove barriers to implementation and further the work of the ACTION Zone to improve student achievement.
The project had a focus on the implementation of enhanced school autonomy within the ACTION Zone.
The process for this study was to interview leaders within APS and the ACTION Zone to describe their plans and role in supporting the ACTION Zone. Interview data was organized into theories of action to describe the changes they believe or have planned to occur in the Zone and to describe the implementation drivers needed to support these changes (competency, organizational, and leadership).
